Unity Model Assignment

Our next design assignment is to design a form that illustrated the concept of unity. These forms have to be made out of 12 kabob skewers, 12 4" by 6" cards of bristol board (a smooth, but somewhat thick form of paper more dense than an index card, but less dense than cardboard), and glue. We are required to use these materials and only these materials. The focus of this project is on creating form, so no coloring or cutting of the bristol board or skewers is allowed. The assignment, pictured below, begins with a quote by Lao Tse which concludes that, "We pierce doors and windows to make a house; and it is these spaces where there is nothing that the utility of the house depends. Therefore, just as we take advantage of what is, we should recognize the utility of what is not." In this assignment we are encouraged to pay attention to the spaces that we create as a potential strategy for unifying our materials.
